Today’s Bath Enclosures:
If adding value to your home for years with a great looking shower door is important to you, then we can help! Let’s plan your special luxury bathroom, whether a simple enclosure or a spacious room-sized shower, using quality glass products with commercial-grade heavy wall aluminum that are easy to clean. Distinctive design, innovative features, and a wide selection to choose from describe our local inventory.
What to measure:
Our most popular design is a two-panel bypass door mounted on our easy-to-clean modern track system. The doors can be framed or frameless and like all of our shower doors, stylish and watertight. The normal size is made for a 60” shower, but other sizes are also available.
Measure your dimensions and draw a sketch of your bathroom, keeping a 24-inch clearance in front of the enclosure so we can keep you safe.
In a simple sliding tub enclosure, we’ll need your measurements across the top, and the height from the tub to the top of the tile.
With a simple hinged shower door, measure your width and the opening height. Current Federal building codes require that all shower doors open outward. Shower openings normally range from 27” TO 36”, but again, we’re flexible.
Of course, we do neo-angle and heavy glass custom shower partitions as well, at competitive prices. Neo-angle doors consist of a center door with an angled sized panel on either side of the door, and is ideal for space saving.
If you’re looking for that luxurious hotel-like quality, a heavy glass shower door is your best bet. Please give us a call when doing your budget…we’re there to help you. You can reach us at 833-1111 or e-mail us at: customerservice@akamaiglass.com.
Things to consider:
Take a look at your plumbing fixtures and see if they are chrome, brushed nickel, gold, or antique white and we can match them for you.
All glass in shower and bath enclosures are tempered. Although we have many sizes in stock, if you require a special thickness or style, please allow 30 days. Typically, glass is clear, rain, or obscure, but many other patterns are available at www.cardinalshower.com.
Looking from the outside of your enclosure, which way will it open, hinged right or left?
Is there a place to hang a towel within 12 inches of the shower or do you need a towel bar?
Is it time for you to consider a barrier-free or handicap access system, with minimal or no bottom track? We can that for you now, savings thousands later.
Framed or frameless? A framed door adds structure to your glass for solid operation. A frameless glass uses a minimal amount of framing but generally, heavier 1/4″ glass is used to compensate for the lack of structural framing.

Maintenance:
Many people do not realize that glass is porous, so that stain that you see is a accumulation of soap scum, dirt, and perspiration. Once the soap scum has built up on your shower door, there is no cleaner that can remove it.
Our manufacturer, Cardinal Shower, offers a Cardinal Armor system that allows you to clean your shower less frequently. Initially, your order is treated with this special chemical which repels water from the shower door. Although we still recommend that you squeegee your shower after each use, the Armor system will help repel the dirt in the few days that you may forget. For more information, see www.cardinalshower.com.
The following is also a list of chemicals that can scratch glass or damage the metal finish of your shower door and should not be used:
- Vinegar or vinegar-based cleaners
- Abrasive or soft-abrasive cleaners
- Bleach or bleach-based cleaners
- Steel or Teflon pads
